Delightful Drumming with the ‘Plan Toys Wooden Musical Band’ from Bouncy Happy People.

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Our friends at Mumsbabymagazine.com have been kind enough to review the Plan Toys Wooden Musical Band for us. Take a look at what they had to say…

Drumming is beneficial to the physical, mental, social, spiritual, educational, emotional and Musical development of children. Drumming is a physically active form of musical expression which gives children a ‘voice’. The act of drumming is well known for increasing attention span and enhancing self esteem. Drumming exercises the brain, memory and self control required to make rhythms. Drumming can be especially rewarding and beneficial for children with special needs or disabilities.

It is never too early to teach your children how to create and follow beats and rhythms accurately. Some expecting parents even play Music to their child/ children before birth by placing headphones upon their pregnant belly! When your child is born they may respond to rhythms and beats through movement, clapping, stamping, verbalising or even physically drumming upon an object. Children as we know love to play with our pots and pans making bangs and crashes, whilst pots and pans are ideal for young infants, once your child is a little older it may be wise to invest in something a little higher quality to nourish and encourage your child’s desire to create Music.

Suitable for ages three and up, the Plan Toys Musical Band is perfect for toddlers and children wishing to practice Music with a realistic, quality instrument. The Plan Toys Musical Band features two drums differing in size and tone, a guiro/ scraper, a cymbal and two wooden drum sticks. Mums Baby Magazine were sent the ‘Plan Toys Musical Band’ to rate and review for our readers from ‘Bouncy Happy People’. Bouncy Happy People are a family run activity toy company based in Cornwall, UK. Bouncy Happy People are renowned for sourcing and retailing fabulous activity toys to encourage energetic, creative and imaginative play. Mums Baby Magazine put the Plan Toys Musical Band to the test with a delightful little drummer…
The Musical Band is extremely easy to assemble, requiring only two screws in total. The main board simply screws to the stand, the three sturdy legs are then twisted into place and from this point the drums and accessories can be added with elastic fastenings. Due to the simplistic design of the Musical Band, it is also very easy to disassemble for storage and could therefore fit into a medium sized box along with other Musical instruments for storage purposes.

Unlike many drums/ instruments made for use with children, the Plan Toys Musical Band is very high quality in terms of material and sound produced. The skins of the drums are made from a rubbery textured material which produces a wonderful tone when struck with a drum stick. The skins of the drums are made from cotton coated with natural latex (the distinctive character of natural latex can mean that white stains/ marks appear on the material when exposed to high temperatures/ humidity. In order to clear the white stain simply use a sponge and water to gently wipe from the material).
Each drum is attached to the mainframe of the Musical Band set with strong elasticated wooden toggles. Each drum can be easily added or removed from the set and used individually if required.

The guiro is also attached by elastic (as shown in pictures featured) and be easily added or removed according to the users requirements. The guiro can be turned either horizontal or vertical to the Musical Band set for easy access during play. The cymbal is also attached via elastic and produces a fantastic sound when struck,

Whilst the Plan Toys Musical Band may seem small measuring 35cm in length, 25cm in width and 35cm in height, it is the ideal size for young child as it is lightweight, mobile and ideal for ‘floor play’ or placing upon a table top.
Our little drummer took great joy in striking the cymbal over and over for some time. Whilst the cymbal is satisfyingly loud enough for children, it isn’t too loud for adults and therefore bearable for parents to allow children regular play. Our toddler tester soon discovered that each drum altered in tone and took great pride in creating alternate sounds with each drum. Whilst we encouraged him to make use of the guiro he found it awkward to access and therefore we twisted it so that it was vertical for easier access during play.

The Plan Toys Musical Band provided hours of entertainment for our dainty drummer. We believe that this item is also ideal for use within the classroom as due to its high quality and smaller size, the Musical Band could be placed in front of a child upon the floor or a desk during music sessions within nursery, primary or even secondary school. We were so greatly impressed by the quality and design of the Plan Toys Musical Band that we awarded this item ten out of ten!
The Plan Toys Musical Band helps to develop a broad range of skills including two vital skills for development: motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Whilst the Plan Toys Musical Band is classed as a toy, we believe that it should be classed as an instrument as it is such quality and enables children to explore music, discovering a range of sounds in order to develop a broad range of skills whilst having a whole lot of fun!

The Plan Toys Musical Band retails at £35 upwards in most stores and online shops. However, Bouncy Happy People currently sell the Plan Toys Musical Band for (drum roll please…) only £29.95! For further information visit www.bouncyhappypeople.co.uk

About Dream Toys
Dream Toys is an important part of the toy industry calendar because this is when the Toy Retailers Association (TRA) sets out what it thinks are the ‘hot dozen’ toys for the Christmas ahead. One of these products normally goes on to win the coveted Toy of the Year award which takes place during the Gala Dinner on the opening night of Toy Fair.

The TRA considers itself to be perfectly placed to make these predictions – thanks in part to its 50 years of consumer knowledge and because it represents 75% of toy retailers. Industry insiders may balk at the annual list, not least because of its predictable and pedestrian nature, tending to focus on products with the most marketing clout and rarely ever featuring products from small or niche toy suppliers.

The Dream Toys 2011 Press Event
The nominees were announced at 7am on Wednesday 26th October 2011 and introduced to the media at a press event at St Mary’s Church in Bryan Square, London. The list got some good coverage on BBC Breakfast with Doggie Doo attracting the most giggles

Bouncy Happy People, how we started and what we have been doing

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Welcome to Our Bouncy Happy People Blog. We have just began this as a way that we can share feedback on products and active play. We have offer a wide range of activity toys and hope that this will help by sharing tips and ideas from the practical to the technical. We also welcome ideas on everything – party ideas for all ages, to fun projects in the holidays.
How we started Bouncy happy business happened like this; we’re a family that lives in Cornwall and we love as all families do, doing things together – especially spending time outside. Four years ago we bought a trampoline – but it was not easy to compare and choose from the many options available online. When the trampoline arrived at Christmas we did a lot of bouncing… and the more we bounced the more we thought how fun it would be to give up the day job and set up a business selling trampolines and activity toys which would make it really easy for people to find the best one for them. So we did. We called it Bouncy Happy People.
Today we sell all sorts of other games and toys as well as the best trampolines. Our four children are great at helping us test anything from the different brands of trampolines we have set up here to the trikes and table tennis tables. We don’t sell anything we don’t like. If something is too difficult to put together or isn’t strong enough, we just don’t stock it. After all, a broken toy or game is unlikely to make you feel either bouncy or happy!
We do lots of hands-on research. We know just about everything there is to know about what we sell, so if you need advice or a quick delivery, just send us an email or give us a call. As a small family company we really appreciate our customers and we’re proud of providing excellent service. We’re allergic to things like call centres and we love hearing what our customers have to say.”
Please feel free to contact us for advice or information or call us on 01326 375755. We’re always happy to help.

May 6th TOO FAT TO TODDLE We were credited on the Granada TV production ‘too fat to toddle’ shown on ITV tonight. Bouncy Happy People were delighted to help with providing advice and the trampolines to make exercise fun for the children in the making of the programme, and as part of the childrens fitness programme. (I was surprised they didn’t fit the safety nets). Dr Gately was a good trampolinist too and we hope will be providing some hard data on the benefits.
May 2nd LETS GET OUTSIDE! The weather is superb in Cornwall, and the forecast is looking good for a weekend of garden activity yipeee. Where is the aqua slide?!!
BILIBO We were sent a nice review of the bilibo on a website. They review and test products for younger children. Here it is ….
”Well. The Bilibo. ‘Tis an odd thing. A shiny, plastic saucer bucket. Kind of. Thing.
Whats it for? Well – pretty much whatever your child needs, actually.
So far I have noticed that it can be;
A carry vessel for cars and soldiers and dinosaurs,
A super-fast ramp for cars,
A spinny seat on shiny floors,
A TV-watching seat,
A tortoise shell,
A step to reach high shelves,
A helmet to make you an alien,
A stand-in-and-balance-whilst-your-brothers-push-you game,
A floating bath island,
A roll-around for small balls,
A drum,
A shelter for dinosaurs hiding from the tanks (yes, we have very special dinosaurs who co-inhabit contemporary earth alongside modern soldiers…?!!),
A treasure island with caves for the Playmobil pirates,
A cooking pot,
A bug-collecting pot,
A teddy bear’s bed,
Oh, the list is endless…
They are quite large (over a foot in diameter) and, of course they’re utterly rigid so there’s no packing them away into small spaces.
I must also warn you that if you leave them out on the floor I can guarantee that at any time at least one of your children will have one foot in it, shooshing across the floor or standing in it swaying wildly, giggling, whilst you try to talk to them.
It also drives Mr Laura mad, to be honest.
But it’s not for him and the children – all four of them, from Ella at 9 months right up to Cameron at 9 years, adore it.
And that’s the important thing, yes?

27 April OVAL POD
The Oval Pod has been given ‘the thumbs up’ in a subjective childrens -bounce test. The results were positive. The Bounce was liked, (certainly comparable if not better than the ‘Classic’ jump Pod); customers trialling it have been really excited about the bounce; different over the bed. The length is good too (so lots of space for bouncing in a line not in circles?).The boys liked the length for playing ball games. Obvious when stated but then I’m not 10 years old..and we lose the ability to spot the obvious as we get older!
20 April – ACTIVE GARDEN FUN
We are excited to be able to offer ‘instant vegetable gardens’. We tested these ‘ready to go vegetable plants in our garden last year and are so impressed with how successful it was – and the kids helped plant and harvest too. The baby plants are grown locally in Cornwall and crop superbly. Please click on our link for more information http://www.bouncyhappypeople.co.uk/showdetails.asp?id=2907
4 April- OVAL POD from JUMP KING
We have just erected the newest innovative trampoline from Jump King in the garden (or rather Roney and Sarah did most of it). It looks really good and will offer the option of a large trampoline to be paced in Narrower garden. Not quite as easy to erect as the round ones – but we are here to pass on our experience if needed.

WE HAVE BEEN PLAYING AGAIN…

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

We’ve been testing out some more new products (and some old ones as well, just because they’re good fun and we like playing with them) last night in the lovely sunshine. Big thanks to Bryan, Jackie, George and Grace for coming along, can’t wait to see how Bryan’s photos came out, I’m sure there will be some added to our website soon.

REMEMBER REMEMBER TO PROTECT YOUR TRAMPOLINE FROM BONFIRES

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

The Jump Bed (the bit that you bounce on) and the Enclosure Net on a trampoline are incredibly strong and hardwearing, however, they are easily damaged by extreme heat, so it’s important to protect them on Bonfire Night and during bonfire season, as the cost of replacement of these parts can be expensive. Click here to see our range of Trampoline Covers, and don’t forget to tell any neighbours that have a Trampoline if you are planning a Bonfire, you wouldn’t want a bill from them!
