Trampoline tossed 300m by a freak wind gust

MORE than 10 houses were damaged, fences flattened and a trampoline tossed 300m by a freak wind gust in a Melbourne street this morning.

SES crews were called to Bayside Ave in Edithvale, in Melbourne’s southern suburbs, about 1am after the wind uprooted trees, tore apart fences and brought down power lines, theMordialloc/Chelsea Leader reports.

Resident Sandy Ayres, who had part of a fence blown on to her roof and a trampoline land in her front yard, described the freak weather as an intense wind gust.

"It was really sudden and quick,” Ms Ayres said.

“Then there was a bang and I thought there was something broken. I was like, `Oh my God’.

A trampoline tie down kit or sometimes referred to as trampoline anchor down kit may have prevented this trampoline from getting airborne; though this does sound like an extreme freak gust. At www.bouncyhappypeople.co.uk we offer a standard tie down kit and a superstrong tie down kit that can be left in place to mow the grass from £9.95 as at january 2010

trampoline jump bed or trampoline replacement mat

www.bouncyhappypeople.co.uk can offer a range of good quality replacement trampoline jump beds. To replace any worn or damaged trampoline bed (the jumping surface or trampoline mat) you may have, we will need to know these following details to help provide exactly what you need:

Do you know what brand and size of trampoline you have?

Size is measured by the overall diameter of the trampoline, edge to edge.

How many springs does your trampoline have? Lift the safety pads, mark a spring with a piece of tape/paint, then count the springs all the way around until you get back to the first one.

The length of the spring measured end to end when not under load. This means you will need to remove one spring and measure its overall length.

Please call 01326 375755 or email us to be sure and we will confirm availability, most sizes are carried in stock with prices starting at £89 for a 12 foot jump bed and a 14 foot costing £99. As with all our trampoline spares these products are sold including warranty.

Knowing When to Replace Your trampoline Springs

The majority of trampolines use springs, those springs will need to be replaced occasionally. After all, the trampoline springs take most of the stress from people jumping, and when you couple that with the fact that you leave them out in the weather for a big part of every year, they will eventually start showing the wear and tear.
Most trampoline springs are 8.5 inches or 7 inches (8.5’’ springs is 215mm and 7’’ trampoline springs are 177mm long). The better quality trampolines have 8.5’’ springs – however Berg trampoline springs are ‘fatter’ profiled springs as 7’’.

Knowing When to Replace Your Springs

How exactly does a trampoline work? The proper tension for jumping is created and maintained between the springs and the mat. The heights of your jumps, however, are solely dependent upon the strength of the springs that hold the mat to the frame.
The American Society for Testing and Material and TUV and European safety standard trampoline have set standards which must be met by all springs destined for trampoline use. The wire used in the springs is put through a galvanization process prior to use. Galvanization coats the wire with a mixture of zinc and other metal alloys which makes it much stronger. After it has been galvanized, the wire is made into springs. The better quality trampoline springs do deliver a better bounce are carefully profiled and are galvanized for along life, cheaper models are more prone to rust due to the quality of the cheaper zinc coating.

Each bounce on the trampoline takes a toll on the springs. Multiply this by thousands of bounces, and you'll be able to see why the springs need to be made of the strongest wire available. Since even the best wire will stretch and get weaker over time, it's a good idea for you to have a regular schedule of preventive maintenance for your springs. Every month you need to look them over to make sure they aren't rusty and still look strong.
One way to make your springs last longer is to cover the trampoline with a trampoline cover when you aren't using it. This is not something that we do as we like the trampoline to be ready for use at all times regardless of the weather. However the trampoline cover is useful protection at certain times and if the trampoline is out of use for some time. www.bouncyhappypeople.co.uk offer a range of covers to protect the bed. Most trampolines with safety nets won’t allow a cover to extend over the frame pads and springs. The best quality covers are heavy duty supertramp made and we offer a wide range.
You can also spray the metal with WD40 or a similar anti-rust product when you do your monthly inspections. You need to keep your springs in the best working condition to prevent them from snapping at a weak or rusty spot while someone is jumping.
When the time comes to replace the springs on your trampoline, you may choose to deal with one of the online trampoline experts such as www.bouncyhappypeople.co.uk that sells replacement springs that has the correct spring in stock and ensure that you are getting good quality.

Before shopping for new springs, though, you need to remove some of the existing springs and measure them from hook to hook. It's good to measure more than one spring, because some of them may have stretched more than others. Once you know how many inches long your springs are, you'll be able to buy replacements very easily from Bouncy happy people. Standard sizes are 5.5, 7 and 8 inch trampoline springs measured overall and unclipped from the trampoline. If you are unsure please feel free to email sales@bouncyhappypeople.co.uk or call our bouncy happy people office on 01326 375755- we are likely to know which size spring fits on which trampoline.

Replacement springs come in sets of 6 and cost £16.95.

"Trampoline Cover Saves Jump Bed…sparktastic!"

trmpoloon cover.jpg

I love this time of year with Fire works and Bonfires, its great fun, what’s not so fun is a stray spark melting straight through your trampoline Jump bed! A trampoline cover is a good preventative measure and could save you a lot of money.

When a spark falls on your Jump bed it will melt through the fabric, forming a small, self sealing hole. If the hole is big enough for a finger or thumb to fit through you will need to replace your Jump Bed which can be costly.

So, the moral of the story is remember, remember, to put your trampoline cover on!

Protecting the jump bed

The trampoline jump bed can benefit from using a cover. The permatron nylon jump bed is especially easily damaged by any sparks. This is the major cause of damage - from bonfire sparks or a firework. replacement beds are expensive and will take an hour of your time to fix.

However generally, we don't use covers on our trampolines - even in winter. We want our children to be able to access the trampoline easily and get the most exercise. However it is worth having a cover for security ie if putting the trampoline 'out of bounds' or going away on holiday, and especially if having a bonfire or on firework night. Bouncy Happy people offer a wide range of trampoline covers at all prices and quality for all sizes and that can be fitted with safety nets.
