Health benefits of trampolining

clip_image002.jpg
Sally Wainman wrote to the Daily Telegraph in September 2008 to report as follows.
SIR I was pleased to see in your feature on autumn activities you informed readers that the 12 indoor disciplines of gymnastics including trampolining ''attract all ages into the seventies''.

I took up trampolining classes at 59 and am slowly working my way through the graded badges.

It is an incredible way of 'working out'

and acquiring new skills. I am hoping to celebrate my 60th birthday with another certificate which will be uplifting in every sense of the word! Sally Wainman PP

Perfect weather for trampolining! Bank holiday and autumn weather forecast

Britain will bask in an Indian summer with sunshine and high temperatures heading our way this autumn, forecasters said last night.

At long last good news about the weather. Reports of parents in Cornwall putting their children into wetsuits to trampoline in the rain are true- that happens in winter- but not in summer!
The country will enjoy some glorious sunshine after the wind and rain that has blighted the holiday season so far. Temperatures are expected to soar high into the 70s Fahrenheit next month, forecasters said yesterday. And the good weather is expected to arrive in time for this Bank Holiday weekend.

Our Jumpking trampoline had more use last winter as in this summer- strange but true- it must have been drier last winter?

Lu wins Gold for China in trampolining

Lu, the top qualifier to the eight-man final, scored 41.00 to take the gold medal. He was one of four finalists with a 16.20 difficulty level but he rose above the others with his superior execution scores.

Seventh-placed qualifier Jason Burnett of Canada performed the highest level of difficulty (16.80) and earned the silver medal with a steady performance (40.70). Burnett's was the best Trampoline result by a Canadian man in Olympic history.

Dong Dong of China, who at age 19 was the youngest male competitor, won the bronze medal (40.60) for his clean routine. Dong, who qualified second to the final, placed second at the 2007 world championships. Lu's and Dong's medals were the first Trampoline medals for the Chinese men in Olympic history.

Sotomura Tetsuya of Japan and Athens 2004 gold medalist Yuriy Nikitin of Ukraine each scored 39.80 but Sotomura placed fourth based on his better execution scores.

A perfect fusion of athletics and aesthetics, Trampoline gymnastics ranks among the defining sports of the Olympic Games.

As of 1 January 1999, trampoline became a discipline of gymnastics at the Olympic Games.

Trampoline gymnastics debuted at the Sydney 2000 Games featuring both men's and women's individual events. The Russian Federation took home two gold medals at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games as Alexander Moskalenko and Irina Karavaeva were crowned with gold medals.

With so many 'back yard' or Garden trampolines in the UK, GB must have a better chance in future of making a larger impact in this event.

The greatest trampolinist to date, Olympic Gold medalist Karavaeva

Trampoline gymnastics is a relative newcomer in the family of Olympic events, making its debut in the first Olympics of the century in Sydney. While a young Olympic discipline, it has a senior player in Irina Karavaeva, winner of the first-ever Olympic Gold medal for trampoline in 2000.

Before becoming an Olympic champion, this Russian gymnast had already won the World Championship title in 1994, 1998, and 1999. Her list of honors also included five World Cup Finals (1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, and 2004).

In 2001, after winning another individual World Championship, she learned that a mistake had been committed by the judges and voluntarily turned over the gold medal to silver medalist Anna Dogonadze (GER). In consolation Karavaeva was awarded a medal by the International Fair Play Committee.

At the 2004 Athens Olympics, the then European, World and Olympic champion failed to reach the final round of competition causing a sensation in the event. However, this setback did not deter her legendary career.

Karavaeva maintains the world record for highest degree of difficulty in women's trampoline. The Russian continues to challenge herself, most recently taking the bronze medal in the Spanish leg of the Trampoline World Cup on June 28.
